The agrarian economies of Central Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union are at present undergoing a systemic change and transformation from planned economies to market economies based on private ownership. However, the transformation is a far more complicated and complex process than imagined. This volume presents an overview of the agricultural situation and the status of the reforms in the agrarian sector in Central and Eastern Europe and the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. It provides benchmark information for studying problems of this difficult transition in Central and Eastern Europe and for the development of specific agricultural projects in the individual countries of the region.
