During the both phases of first experiment, anthelmintic efficacy of Caesalpinia crista Linn. seed (powder) was tested at different dosage levels but anthelmintic efficacy was not observed at the dosage levels ranging from 2 gm to 6 gm/kg body weight. It was concluded in the first experiment that Caesalpinia crista Linn. seeds have no anthelmintic efficacy against Toxocara vitulorum infection in buffalo calves. During the second experiment clinical trials were conducted to test the anthelmintic efficacy of Caesalpinia crista Linn. seeds (Karanjwa), Ivermectin (Ivomec), Levamisole (Anthelmine) and Oxfendazole (Systarnex) against Toxocara vitulorum infection in buffalo calves under field conditions. Again results of second experiment support the zero percent (0%) anthelmintic efficacy of . crista Linn seeds (Powder) at the dosage level of 4 gm/kg body weight against vitulorum in buffalo calves. Anthelmintic efficacy of Ivermectin. (Ivomec, I ml/50 kg body weight), Levamisole (Anthelmine 1 ml/15 mg body weight) and oxfendazole (systamex 1 ml/5 kg body weight) was observed to be 99.30%, 98.30% and 100% respectively against Toxocara vitulorum infection in buffalo calves. Anthelmintic efficacy of Casesalpinia crista at the dose level of 4 gm/kg body weight was 86.85%, Furneria parvifl at the dose level of 4 gm/kg body weight was 85.32%, Mebendazole at the dose level of 15 mg/kg body weight was 98.05% and Ivermectin at the dose level of 200 jig/kg body weight was 96.55%. There was marked decrease in EPG in all the four groups A, B, C and D treated with . crista, . p.ryjflora, Ivermectin and Mebendazole respectively, whereas an increased value of EPG was observed in group E (unmedicated control) in response to the increasing intensity of infection in sheep. Haematological study of infected animals revealed a considerable increase in Neutrophils, Monocytes, Basophils and Eosinophils while a considerable decrease in Lymphocytes, Total leukocytic count and Total serum proteins was observed. 4. To Study The Comparative Efficacy Of Cloprostenol And Estradio For The Treatment Of Endometritis In Cross Bred

One hundred and sixty cross bred cows suffering from 1st degree endometrétis were selected amongst the animals brought for A.I. or repeat breeding at different A.I.Centres/Sub-centres in Lahore city. After detailed gynaecological examination animals were randomly divided into four treatment groups. Forty cross bred cows in group 'A' were injected cloprostenol on day 10 of oestrous cycle and cured animals were inseminated at the end of induced oestrus. Similarly were in group 'B' 40 cross bred cows were injected cloprostenol on day 10 of oestrous cycle and cured animals were inseminated at the end of oestrus that followed the induced one. in group 'C' endometretic bred cows were treated with estradiol intrauterinally for 3 alternate days of oestrous cycle and the cured animals were inseminated on next oestrus, Group 'D' comprised forty cross bred cows. This group served for all other groups as control. All the animals were inseminated without any treatment. After two months all the animals were palpated rectaly for pregnancy diagnosis. Only 144 animals could he traced for pregnancy diagnosis. While others died or were sold and transferred to untraceable places. The percent curative and conception rate observed in cloprostenol treated group 'A' (ind-oestus) were 75, 66.66, respectively. Similarly in group 'B' the percent curative and conception rate in cloprostenol treated (followed lind - oestrus) aimais were 87.50, 76.47. In estradiol treated animals the curative rate was 62.50% while conception rate observed was 60.86%. In control group only 40% animals conceived after insemination. On the basis of curative and conception rates cloprostenol was found better than stilboestrol for the treatment of 1st degree endometrtis. Moreover, in cloprostenol trente(1 group resti tt of inseminat ions in Tind oestrus was found better than induced one. Therefore, cloprostenol treatment is recommended as a drug of first choice for the treatment of 1st degree endometritis in cross bred diary cows. Material type: book Book; Format: print ; Literary form: drama Publisher: 2013Dissertation note: There were one hundred cases of dogs showing the clinical signs of canine parvovirus infection like bloody diarrhea, vomiting and emaciationwhich were selected randomly. All the cases were confirmed by HA and HI test. Disease occurrence was found to be 55%. There were 55 samples found to be positive and 45 samples were found to be negative for canine parvovirus. The incidences of the disease in German shepherd was highest (38%) followed by other breeds Labrador, Rottweiler, Pointer, Cross, Russian and Local breeds which were 8%, 7%, 6%, 5%, 4% and 3% respectively. Similarly, disease occurrence in non-vaccinated dogs was higher thanvaccinated.The disease was more prevalent in non-vaccinated dogs as compared to the vaccinated dogs. So, vaccination provides sufficient immunity against canine parvovirus. Male dogs were more affected by canine parvovirus than female dogs. Occurrence of the disease in the age of 1-3 months was the highest. Pups were more affected than the older dogs. Occurrence of canine parvovirus in the male and female were found to 60% and 43.5% respectively. Disease occurrence of canine parvovirus in September, October and November was found to be 55%, 52.5% and 56% respectively. Blood samples were collected at day 0(before the treatment) and on the day 5 (after the treatment) and analysis was done in UDL, Lahore. Four different kinds of treatment protocols were compared on the basis of hematological improvement, days of hospitalization and the cost of treatment. Of the four groups hyperimune serum when used with normal saline was found to be more effective. It was found that improvement in the leucocytes, neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocytes and platelets with P <0.05. SAFI syrup with supportive therapy was the second effective treatment with P >0.05. Supportive treatment alone was not effective for hematological recovery P > 0.05. It had also increased the cost of treatment, and duration of treatment for canine parvovirus infection. IDA is the most prevalent form of anemia especially in developing countries. It becomes more threatening in pregnancy. It is greatly linked with dietary habits choices. It can be substantially improved with proper dietary choices which can be improved by nutrition education. Low dietary intake of iron in pregnancy may be improved by nutritional education. Gravidas females will be divided into two groups; Group A (Controlled group) and Group B (experimental group). Group B will be guided by nutritional education about the IDA, but Group A will not be guided. Clinical tests of patients will be performed three times, with an interval of one month. CBC and serum iron level test will be conducted. The data will be analyzed by t-test using SPSS version 20.0. P values ≤ 0.05 will be considered significant. 11. Development And Quality Enhancement Of Cottage Cheese Made From Nili Ravi Buffalo Postpartum Milk (Colostrum)

It differs from normal milk as it contains numerous bioactive components which include growth factors, lacto-peroxidase, lacto-ferrin, Igs, lysozyme, nucleosides, vitamins, oligosaccharides and peptides, which are health promoters. Cottage cheese is an excellent source of cyanocobalamin, riboflavin and pyridoxine. Using colostrum for making cottage cheese can give opportunities to increase cottage cheese quality which may be more functional, healthier with high yield. Preservation of colostrum in the form of cottage cheese can be supportive for obtaining functional cheese with enhanced shelf life. Nili Ravi Buffalo postpartum milk was used for the production of Cottage cheese. While the control was prepared from Nili-Ravi buffalo normal milk. Milk was pasteurized at 63 °C for around 30 minutes in batch pasteurizer. Then the milk temperature was brought down at 37°C for inoculation with the mother cultures mentioned above at 2% level. Three replicates for each treatment was prepared. Incubation continued for 30 minutes at 42°C. Then 1.7 ml CaCl2 was added and after 10 minutes 1.7 ml of rennet solution was added in cheese milk and left for another 40 minutes for coagulation. Then the curds was cut into 1cm3 and healed for 10 minutes. The temperature is raised to 55°C for cooking for 30 minutes. Then whey was drained for 24 hrs. The curd was pressed and shaped into mold and then wrapped in aluminum foil and stored at 4°C for 7 days for further analysis. The physicochemical analysis such as pH, Acidity%, Fat %, TS %, Ash %, Chlorides %, Casein %, Protein% and Lactose% of Colostrum and Colostrum based Cottage cheese with respect to control was carried out by standard methods as described in AOAC. The data thus collected were analyzed through one way analysis of variance under Completely Summary 139 Randomized Design (CRD). Means were compared through Duncan’s Multiple Range (DMR) Test (SAS 9.1 Statistical Software). Physicochemical analysis of Colostrum showed that pH is in the increasing trend with the increase of age of milk and results showed that Colostrum pH values lower than milk values and were related to the high proteins content that is usually revealed in colostrum obtained 2-3 days after birth. While the trend of titratable acidity %, fat %, chlorides %, specific gravity, ash %, Total solids %, Total protein % and casein % is decreasing with an increase in the age (Days) of postpartum milk. Physicochemical analysis of Colostrum Cottage Cheese showed that the trend of pH of colostrum cottage cheese remained constant with the increase of age. The trend of lactose% and ash % is increasing with an increase in the age of postpartum milk. While the trend of titratable acidity %, fat %, chloride%, total solids %, total protein % and casein % of cottage cheese is decreasing with an increase in the age (days) of postpartum milk. Microbiological analysis of Cottage cheese was examined. Coliforms remained absent (<10 cfu/g) during whole storage time. Total Plate Count (TPC) was not significantly different throughout the storage period as it renders growth if there are hygiene and proper storage conditions available. Sensory evaluation was be carried out using criteria of appearance, taste, color, flavor and whole acceptability on a hedonic scale of nine points. T0, T3, T4 and T5 showed cheese like aroma, T1 showed yoghurt like aroma while T2 showed cheese like/ slight acidic aroma after 7 days of storage period. T0 and T5 showed whitish appearance, T1 showed light yellow appearance, T2 showed slight creamy like color after 7 days of storage period while T3 and T4 showed off white appearance after 7 days of storage period. T0, T4 and T5 showed light acidic flavor, T1 and T2 Summary 140 showed slight saltish / most bitterness in taste while T3 showed acidic taste after 7 days of storage period. T0 and T5showed granular texture with no creaminess, T1 showed soft yoghurt like texture, T2 showed meaty / hard texture while T3 and T4 showed harder toffee like texture after 7 days of storage period. Colostrum is the most proteinaceous food as compared to milk and improves the nutritional aspects as well as quality and yield of the products. So Cottage cheese made from Colostrum is more nutritious, functional with probiotic characters as well as enhanced physico-chemical properties with high yield. 13. Effect Of Inulin Present In Chicory Roots On The Diabetes

The principle symptoms of high glucose are expanded thirst, regular pee, and expanded craving. Diabetes is a disease that influences the way the body uses food from the blood. It is normally a hereditarily issue of digestion system, that is showed by the inability to tolerate carbohydrates and insulin inadequacy. In 2014 around 387 million individuals have diabetes the whole way across the world and 90% of the cases were of Type 2 diabetes which is equivalent to 8.3% of the grown-up population. This proportion was equivalent for both ladies and men. From years 2012 to 2014, it is evaluated that 1.5 to 4.9 million deaths each year was because of DM. The danger of death is twice with diabetes. The normal number of individuals with diabetes is 592 million by 2035 by this rate. With more than 16 million individuals America have some type of this disease (DM). 700,000 new instances of DM are analyzed each year. Diabetes is increasing at very high rate in Pakistan. There are nearly 7.1 million DM patients in Pakistan and it is also estimated that if DM continually develop at this rate then 11.4 million patients of diabetics will be there and Pakistan would rank 10th in the world in 2030. This study is designed due to this alarming rate of diabetes in our country. Inulin present in chicory roots may be used to optimize blood glucose level in diabetic patients. Total 20 diabetic participants aged 30 to 40 years, present in Lahore, were selected for this study in two groups with 10 each participants. Chicory root powder was used as a source of inulin. 60 Chicory roots was purchased from the market. Then cleaned from dirt and then it was dried with the help of oven at temperature 55˚c.Then this dried roots were grinded with the help of grinder machine. Two group were formed. One group was control group that used only allopathic medicines specifically for diabetes. Other group was inulin group that used chicory root powder. Inulin group used both chicory root powder and medicines 1st week of the study. This was done only to ensure no side effect of chicory root powder on the participants. Next week when there was no adverse effect then participants were advised to use half of the medicine along with the chicory root powder. Then after 13 days when glucose level of the participant was on the course then eliminated the medicines and told them to use only 10 grams of chicory root powder daily. Glucose level of these patients was tested daily by the glucometer for two weeks. Then after every 5 to 7 days for 3 months. Then at the end of this period HBA1C test was carried at the hospital laboratory. In this experimental trial, we investigated the effect chicory root supplementation especially inulin has on glucose level of type 2 diabetic patients. Our results showed that three months of chicory root supplementation significantly decreased blood glucose level. My study reveals that inulin as a fiber didn’t control the diabetes but have a little effect on the glucose intake in the blood due to its fibrous nature. Data showed that the inulin supplementation slightly reduce the glucose level in the blood. First week of the supplementation was along with medicines and data showed reduction in the glucose level of blood. At initial day the average random blood glucose level was 251.2 ± 60.1 mg/dl and after 7 days it was 220 ± 53.1 mg/dl and at the end of 90th day it was 195 ± 52.3 which shows that inulin has a reducing effect on the diabetes to some 61 extent. In this study we can conclude that inulin containing chicory roots has a positive effect on the reduction of glucose level of blood (p < 0.001). The patients that use 10 grams of chicory root powder constantly were able to lower their blood glucose level and HbA1c. But it cannot be used as a medicine replacement in diabetic patients because it does not control blood glucose level to the normal range. Future Recommendations: I recommend in future that effect of inulin on the diabetic patients should be checked in relation to amount of medicines given to the patients. Researchers should check that what happens when inulin is used with different amount of medicines in diabetic patients. 14. Effect Of Drinking Water Quality On Growth Performance Of Post Weaned Holstein Friesian Calves

In this regard, this study was designed to evaluate the effect of drinking water sources on physiological and production parameters in Holstein Friesian calves. Holstein Friesian calves exposed to increasing level of TDS water conditions at dairy farms may exhibit variation in water intake and reduce dry matter intake that might ultimately lead to deviation in growth performance from normal range. In order to test this hypothesis, the proposed study was carried out. To evaluate the physiological and productive profile of Holstein Friesian calves subjected to various sources of drinking water with different levels of TDS and minerals concentration under subtropical conditions, the proposed experiment was conducted at Dairy Training and Research Demonstration Farm Ravi Campus B Block, Pattoki, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. For this purpose, 18 Holstein Friesian calves of the similar age and weight were randomly selected from the herd maintained at Dairy Training and Research Demonstration Farm and were divided into three groups i.e. A, B and C with 6 Holstein Friesian calves in each group. The calves from group A were provided turbine water for drinking purpose. CHAPTER 6 SUMMARY Summary 32 Similarly, calves from group B and C were subjected to normal tap water and processed water from reverse osmosis unit, respectively. The availability of water was made possible for 24 hours in front of animals. The water was provided under the shed to these calves. The water troughs were kept neat and clean during whole of the experimental period. The calves were given free approach to water trough. The water from three sources were supplied to study the comparative performance of calves. The data on water intake and dry matter intake were observed daily. Whereas, weight gain was calculated on fortnightly basis. Feed digestibility was done at end of trial. Blood mineral profile sampling was done at start and end of trial, all serum samples were analyzed by spectrometer. The data thus collected were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) techniques through (SAS, 2004). Difference among treatment means will be tested through least significance difference. The results of experiment were helpful to determine the appropriate water quality (1632.0 TDS to 172 TDS) to enhance the growth of Holstein Friesian calves in central Punjab. This will also provide useful guideline for safe use of drinking water in the areas having water quality problems. Calves exposed to low TDS water showed higher water, feed intake and weight gain. Feed digestibility and blood calcium, phosphorus and magnesium levels were not affected with increase in salinity of water while ALT values are slightly higher in high TDS water group. It was concluded that provision of different sources of water with varying levels of TDS (1632.0 to 172 ppm) had no significant affect on growth of post weaned calves. More research is to be required to investigate the effect of water quality on growth at different stages of calves for more prolonged duration. Similar studies are suggested for the indigenous animals for long Summary 33 period of time. So that a comprehensive findings may be achieved in this regard.
