1. Comparison Of Vaginal Bacterial Flora In Teddy Goats With And Without Reproductive Disorders

Material type: book Book; Format: print ; Literary form: not fiction Publisher: 1989Dissertation note: A total number of 140 teddy goats were included in the study to compare the bacterial flora of vagina. Out of 140 goats, 80 had a history of normal lambing and fertility while 60 goats had a history of reproductive problems such as repeat breeding, infertility etc. A total of 120 bacteria belonging to 9 different species were isolated. 20 samples were bacteriologically sterile. The ercentage of various organisms isolated from samples was as under: - Staphylococcus aureus 29.16% (35 isolates) Corynebacterium pyogenes 27.50% (33 isolates) Streptococcus pyogenes 11.66% (14 isolates) Pseudomonas 9.66% (11 isolates) Bacillus subtilis 6.66% ( 8 isolates) Proteus vulgaris 5 % ( 6 isolates) Bacillus cereus 4.16% ( 5 isolates) Micrococcus 3.33% ( 4 isolates) Lactobacillus 3.33% ( 4 isolates) In-vitro sensitivity of isolates revealed that STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS was 82.85% sensitive to Gentamycin, 71.42% to biotics, 64% to Chloramphenicol, 54.28% to Terramycin, 28.57% to rimethoprim, 20% to Ampicillin and 8.57% to Erythromycin. CORYNEBACTERIUM PYOGENES was 84.84% sensitive to Cornbiotics , ':> 69.69% to Choromphe nicol , 12.12% to Erythromycin, 29.75% to Terramycin, 30.30% to Ampicillin, 15.51% to Gentamycin and 7.43% to Trimethoprim. STREPTOCOCCUS PYOGENES was 92.85% sensitive to gentamycin, 71. 43% to combiotics, and 42.85% to hloramphenicol. It was resistant to Erythromycin, Terramycin, Ampicillin and Trimethoprim. PSEUDOMONAS Spp was 72.72% sensitive to Combiotics, 45.45% to Chloramphenicol, 36.36% to Gentamycin, 27.27% to Terramycin, 18.18% to Erythromycin, Ampicillin and Trimethoprim. BACILLUS SUBTILIS was 100% sensitive to Chloramphenical, Terramycin, Ampicillin and Gentamycin and 83.3% to Combiotics. It was resistant to Erythromycin and Trimethoprim. PROTEUS VULGARIS was 100% senstitive to combiotics, Chloram- phenical, Erythromycin, Terramycin, Ampicillin, Gentamycin and Trimethoprim. BACILLUS CEREUS was 100% sensitive to all the above antibiotics/ Salfonamides tried. MICROCOCCUS was 100% sensitive to all the above antibiotics/ sulfonamides used. LACTOBACILLUS was 100% sensitive to all of the above antibiotics/ sulfonamides. The vaginal samples of goats in reproductive problem group revealed a higher bacterial count as compared to healthy group and it was concluded that higher bacterial load in the agina was responsible for the reproductive problems. No strain of Brucella or vibrio could be isolated. The animals treated intra-vaginally responded favourably. On the basis of in-vitro sensitivity test c'ombiotic is recommended for the treatment of vaginal infections. The preliminary study on the vaginal bacterial flora of the Teddy goats is the first of its kind ever attempted in Pakistan. Further studies on the lines attempted in the present investigation are suggested and in any future attempt it will be highly desirable if other micro-organisms besides bacteria are studied. Furthermore large number of animals both apparently healthy as well as those showing reproductive disorder in various egions of the country should be included in any future endeavour to bring these studies to their logical conclusions. 2. Effect Of Various Growth Promoting Antibiotics On The Immune And Digestive Systems Of Broiler Chickens

Material type: book Book; Format: print Publisher: 2002Dissertation note: This project was designed to study the effects of growth promoting antibiotics on immune and digestive systems of broiler chickens. This study indicated that un-medicated un-vaccinated chickens had the higher body weights than the vaccinated un-medicated or medicated chickens. Flavomycin, Lincomycin and Zinc bacitracin did not adversely affect the mean weights of spleen, thymus and livers of experimental chickens. However, the use of lincomycin, adversely affected the weight of bursa of' Fabricius. Furthermore, the use of Flavoinycin, Lincomycin and Zinc bacitracin did not have any adverse effects on the development of antibody titers against NDV and AIV. The total viable microflora counts of different treatment groups were not different from each other. Evaluation of the economics of flocks at the end of the experiment indicated that un-medicated, un-vaccinated groups had higher profit returns and the Lincomycin medicated, vaccinated groups demonstrated lowest profit. 3. Epidemiology Of Parasitic Load And Therapeutic Control Against Ecto And Endorparasites With Ivermectin In Horses

Material type: book Book; Format: print Publisher: 2002Dissertation note: The present research project was designed to study the efficacy of ivermectin i.e. LG EUVECTIN inj. against ectoparasites, endoparasites and blood parasites in horses. For this purpose, apparently healthy, weak, emaciated horses showing the clinical signs of parasitism, brought to Outdoor clinics, University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore and Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (S.P.C.A) were checked. Out of these 84 animals 25 (29.76%) were found positive for ectoparasites through the skin scraping examination under the microscope. From these 84 animals 28 were checked for endoparasites and through the coprological examination 25 (89.29%) were found positive. From 84 horses, 5 (5.95%) horses had mixed type of infection i.e. positive for both ecto- and endoparasites. Ectoparasites found in 25 positive cases were mites (29.76%) and no ticks or lice infestation was found i.e. Zero percent prevalence. The endoparasites found were mainly the G.!. T. nematodes (round worms) i.e. 25 (89.29%) cases were positive for round worms while 2 (7.14%) cases out of these 25 were also infested with tapeworms and liver tlukes were zero percent. Infected horses were treated with LG Euvectin injection (Ivermectin 1.0% w/v) through subcutaneous injection at dose rate of 1 ml/50kg (0.2mg/kg) body weight once on zero day. Eggs per gram of faeces (EPG) was counted on a day, 7th and 14th day. Recovery rate with ivermectin against ectoparasites and endoparasites was 76% and 88% respectively. 4. Effect Of Different Egg Storage Periods Temperature And Humidity On Fertility And Hatchability Of Broiler Breeder

Material type: book Book; Format: print Publisher: 2001Dissertation note: This project was made to study the effect of different egg storage periods, temperatures and humidity on fertility and humidity of broiler breeder eggs. A total of 200 eggs were obtained from (lie flock of 32 weeks of age oil a single day collection basis. After collection eggs were cleaned, fumigated and stored on different temperatures (4°C, I 6°C ambient and room temperature) and groups A, B, C, D and E and relative humidity of 80%. Eggs were equally divided into five groups. Each group was further subdivided into 4 replicates having 10 eggs each Group A (consists of 40 eggs 10 from each temperature) was set in incubator after the storage of one day as a control group for comparing with the other four groups. The rest of the four groups were set after the storage of 3, 6, 9 and I 2 (lays. Alter incubation, the effect of five different storage periods on four different temperatures was studied for the following various traits, i.e. fertility percentage, hatchability percentage, clear eggs percentage, dead in shell % and chick weight. The results showed that as the storage period increases on different temperatures 4oC, 16oC ambient and room temperatures it effect the hatchability (P<0.01%). Hatchability decreases after the storage of 6 days. Fertility and clear eggs were not effected by increase of storage length. In case of dead in shell it was observed that as the storage time increases the dead in shell increase significantly (P<0.01%). The results of chick weight Storage of eggs is very important from hatchery as well as farmer economic point of view. By storing eggs under better environment, both the producer and consumer achieve the healthy and quality chicks. Thus the objective of this study was to demonstrate the effect of different eggs storage time under different temperatures and humidity on fertility and hatchability of boiler breeder eggs.
