Significant advances have been made in nutrition and control of disease. Problems of salmonella, campylobacter, listeria and other zoonoses have greatly increased. The industry has adapted to new demands: sections on geese, quail and other poultry are included for the first time and the chapter on turkeys (which are attracting a greater following amongst smaller producers) has been expanded. The pace of change towards "alternative" systems is quickening and the new section deals with these inconsiderably more detail.
